Claymore (Kureimoa) is a gothic fantasy manga and anime produced by Monthly Shonen Jump and is written by Norihiro Yagi . The manga is currently on Chapter 73 (Volume 12) and the anime was released on April 3, 2007 for 26 episodes.The storyline follows Clare, the junior member of the Claymores, an elite all female warrior organization, who are paid by humans to protect their town against the Yoma. The Yoma, a large werewolf life creatures with shape shifting abilities hunt humans to feast on human innards. The story takes places in a fictional late medieval world consisting of small independent towns inhabited by humans.
STORY BACKGROUND
The existence of humans in this world is perilous, as they try to defend themselves against the Yoma. The Yoma raid human settlements for victims. To make matters worse, Yoma have the ability to shape change into humans and live among them and can assume the memories of their victims by eating their victim’s brains. This allows the Yoma to pass themselves off to the victims’ friends and family.
To protect their settlements from the Yoma, the human settlements hire the Claymores to protect them. In fact, the Claymore are Human-Yoma hybrids engineered by a secret organization. They take human subjects, usually young female children who’s family have been slain during Yoma attacks, and infuse them with the Yoma flesh and blood. Towns who fail to pay the Claymore’s protection money, are left to the mercy of the Yoma. According to rumors the secret organization sends the Yoma to attack unprotected towns, or at least inform the Yoma of towns not under a Claymore contract.
